TOEFL Compared to the SAT

If you’re applying to an undergraduate program in the U.S., you will probably have to submit scores for both the TOEFL and the SAT (or ACT). However, in some cases the only required test will either be the TOEFL or the SAT. 
The score and exam required changes from each institution. A good SAT English score will often override the requirement of submitting a TOEFL score, since you’ve proven that you’re able to communicate proficiently in English.
The SAT has three sections:  verbal, math, and writing. Each section is worth 800 points, for a total of 2400 possible points. The TOEFL test does not include any math at all; it’s strictly an English proficiency exam.
The SAT has a section that tests your grammar ability. In that section you will be asked to improve different sentences. The TOEFL does not include sections that require sentence editing.
