Recently, there has been a growing interest in pragmatic competence in EFL. However, what this means and how to teach it is still somewhat unclear. This paper hopes to address these issues.
The education system in Korea is unique to say the least. It's hard to find other countries that have a more competitive academic ladder to climb than here. Testing starts in elementary school which determines the quality of the middle school the child will attend. The student's academic success in that middle school then plays a big role determining the high school the student is eligible for.
No matter how many books you read and how many courses you take, there are some things about being an English teacher which you can only really learn through experiencing them for yourself. As a result, you may end up turning up in a completely new country enthusiastic to start teaching, only to discover that things are not exactly as you imagined they would be.
If you want to become a teacher, you should consider the possibility of becoming an English teacher in Korea. The demand for English teachers is disproportionately high in this country. Your chances of getting your dream job are considerably high and in addition to this, there is 100% guarantee that your paycheck will be heftier compared to the offers you receive in other countries. This could turn out to be the best experience of your life. It is still advisable to approach the entire concept with some common sense.
