Writing a Lesson Plan

by John Halas

Apr 8, 2016 Lesson Planning 4775 Views

Understanding the parts of a lesson plan is among the first steps in closing the achievement gap. It is only when teachers can plan lessons effectively that they will be able to teach all their students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, sex or culture.

Lesson plans are a common feature in the lives of most teachers. Without a well written plan, teachers will be ill prepared, and this will affect their ability to close the achievement gap. Writing a quality lesson plan can be a challenging task for teachers and they may sometimes engage the help of websites which provide writing services for teachers. These websites that assist or give information on writing services for teachers and are widely available on the net and are a great resource for teachers around the world. They help in a variety of areas such as writing a lesson plan. When writing a the lesson there are a few guidelines that can be used as to build up and effective program. They include:

Goals
These help determine the purpose, aim, and rationale for what the teacher and the students will engage in during class time. When writing a lesson plan, this section is used to express the lesson goals. It also focuses on your expectations of what you want the students to be able to do by the end of the lesson.

Objectives
Websites that offer writing services for teachers advice that this section of the lesson plan should focus on what the students will do to acquire more knowledge and skills. Some of the objectives should include the activities that the students will be involved in during the lesson, how will their performance be used to judge their success in the lesson and the method to be used to demonstrate that the students have grasped the objectives of the lesson.

Prerequisites
These are available on writing services for teachers' websites and are used when considering if the students are ready for the lesson because they allow preparation activities to be provided by the teacher, so that they can meet the lesson objectives.

Materials
When writing a lesson plan the teacher has to have an idea on how much preparation in terms of time that the lesson needs and also what kind of equipment and resources he or she needs to be ready.

Procedures
When using the services offered by writing services for teachers' website, this section should have a step by step description of how the plan will be replicated to achieve its objectives. It is intended to allow the teacher to provide suggestions on how the plan will be implemented. Also, when writing a lesson plan the section is categorized into an introduction, main activity and a conclusion.

Assessment or Evaluation
This is the final category when writing plans, and it focuses on the students achieving the objectives of the lesson that were set earlier. The evidence of this should be recorded from the work the teacher has assessed by grading quizzes and projects based on class instruction.

There is an increasing achievement gap in educational performance in our country. It was found to be connected to race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. For instance, according to research African-American and Hispanic students have experienced less achievements compared to their White counterparts, but they usually do not receive equal educational benefits as non-minority students. For instance, many low-performing schools do not attract excellent teachers who know how to write a lesson plan to assess and build upon their students' knowledge.

The U.S Census Bureau noted a continuous change in the demographics of our country. In the years 1980-2000, there was an 88% increase of the total minority population, whereas the increase of the White and non-Hispanic population was only 7.9 percent. Furthermore, by the year 2000, 16% of the minority population was composed of people aged 65 and 39% of people younger than 25. These patterns of increase of minority population are ongoing in the U.S. Demographics statistics and are important for us to understand a better approach of dealing with the need for educational access for underrepresented students.
