One of the most important things a teacher can do is to develop in children the desire to read. In Kindergarten through second grade students are learning to read. From third grade on they are reading to learn. No matter what grade classroom you teach in, having literacy based designs in classroom furniture can help enhance in students the desire to read.

I was born in 1962. In 1967, Mrs. Bellows taught me how to read. In fact, she taught every kid in our kindergarten class how to read. She used slate chalk boards and big pieces of chalk. Have you ever met a language Nazi? Oh, I think you have - I'm sure you know what I mean. By 'language Nazi' I mean someone who knows perhaps just a little bit more than you about spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence construction, verse formats or just the English language in general.
