How Certificate IV in EAL Helped Me

How Certificate IV in EAL Helped Me, A Nigerian, Enhance My Life In Australia and My Career Route?

I should say that English has always been a major roadblock in my career. I have failed at many interviews. I ruined great many chances to gain success.

I am a Nigerian and I speak Yoruba. I have always faced difficulty in speaking English properly.

Am I in Australia Now?

I have been in Australia for over 10 years now. I should say that I was actually brought here by my parents. I should say that we have a small community here so when we speak, we speak our language and I think that brought for me the problems, I didn’t surmise.

I should say that life in this country was a great test of patience for me. I was not able to communicate with the people in English.

I wanted to pursue higher education and wanted to go into one of the top colleges in Australia. But, poor communication skills stood my way, forcing me to go back or try out something else. Then, I began to pay more attention to learning the language. I got all the books I could find on English training but nothing helped me much. Of course, I got basic understanding of the flow of the language but that was not my goal. I wanted to be more fluent at it. I understood that I would need a trainer so I began to pay more attention to taking the training from the masters of the language but, this also didn’t help me much as I saw them speaking in the way I spoke (my masters were my own Nigerian Friends).

But, somehow, I managed to get through the difficulty levels and managed to improve the language to a certain extent. But, still, something was missing.

Then, one day, I got to know more about the courses in English learning from Melbourne City College of Australia. They were offering English language training courses for the student like me who wanted to improve their communication skills. Fascinated by this, I enrolled for the training. I took the first basic course that is Certificate I in EAL (English As An Additional Language)/ The course provided me the necessary skills I was looking for. This boosted up in me some confidence too. Happy with improvement in me, I applied for the second certificate course too that is Certificate II in EAL. This helped me improve my language perfectly well. And with the completion of this course, the thirst to learn and speak more like a foreigner and to beat them in speaking began to grow in me which eventually led me to pursue two other courses such as Certificate III and Certificate IV in EAL. I should say it was a great learning experience for me.

And with the great improvement in my language, I, now, communicate with anyone in English in an easy way. My flow of language, accent intonation, everything has got changed.

And this great improvement in my language made it all much easier for me to get the first job I wanted to.

I am happy to have got the right college for learning and improvement of English language.
