by Linda A Johnson

Mar 13, 2015 2586 Views

_notregistered/f5ff8141e4.jpg These days, having computers in the classroom is the norm, but will tablets and iPads also become the norm? They may be just a trend or they could be improvements for the desktop computer. A tablet is similar to a smartphone that has an increased capacity of computers. This may be a reason why they seem to be gaining popularity because with our increasingly mobile society, speed is surely essential. Additionally, the knowledge of how to download different apps needed to accomplish a task can be considered a survival skill in today's world. Even young children have a chance to collaborate and experiment in unique ways, which they will find useful when they grow up.
This can make for a great opportunity for students to get the expertise and confidence they will need. The reason why every student should "own" their own tablet will enhance how much they use it outside the classroom. There are at least three ways in which tablets are used: as an enhanced way of communicating between the ...

Flipped Classes

by Andoni Sanz

Aug 10, 2015 6541 Views

_notregistered/dbddaa4857.jpg The elements involved have to be well-known to better appreciate the scope of this emerging philosophy:
Actors: teachers, students and parents. Each one of them will see things differently, and knowing how to make them buy your new proposition will be the key to your success.
Processes: lesson preparation, outside of classroom time, inside of classroom time, evaluation.
WHAT
It's an alternative to the traditional teacher/lecture centered approach. In a flipped strategy classroom contents are multimedia based and are accessed through some LMS outside of school. Classroom time is used to deepen that home-acquired knowledge using other strategies, as project based learning, collaborative tasks, etc.
For teachers it is a great way to improve lessons' structure. Resources can be mapped from the syllabus and new activities can be implemented for classroom time. For students it can be challenging, after all you are taking them out of their classical school environment. But they are also ...

by Dr. Bruce A. Johnson

Oct 18, 2015 2391 Views

Online teaching can be exciting, rewarding, frustrating, demanding, and challenging all at the same time. The opportunities for new online teaching opportunities are becoming limited now because of the number of schools that offer online classes, and the process of landing a quality adjunct position has become very competitive. For example, it is not uncommon for someone who is highly experienced and educated to receive the dreaded no thank you email from a human resources department, without anyone ever having taken the time to contact them to discuss their background. So what do you do while you wait for your first (or next) online teaching opportunity? The answer can be summed up as becoming prepared for the role and continuing your professional self-development. There are essentials or best practices that every online instructor needs, which will allow you to become prepared once you are familiar with and understand how to apply them.
The work of an online instructor is measured ...

by Urvi Tandon

Dec 9, 2015 2451 Views

_notregistered/108ba86ceb.jpg For over a century and more, education has remained unchanged in the format of teaching, the subjects taught and the curriculum followed by schools and colleges. Classrooms of students intently listening and absorbing the knowledge and wisdom put forth by a teacher or professor has been the established mode of teaching. Despite advances in technology and teaching concepts, this traditional mode has remained unchanged. The number of courses or subjects and the duration may have varied but largely the framework and the method of teaching have withstood changes that are otherwise visible in other elements. But educators have largely been incased in a kind of immunity against technological advancements until now.
However, it is evident that trends have been changing in the last decade or so and these changes, most of them brought about by technology will change end results. As technology continues to place its emphasis and impact on education, the role that education will play in the ...
