Here is my "dime's worth" (see learning "American English" , or at least your expressions already) on the subject of writing for an international audience on the world wide web. The Web offers you an opportunity, unique in history, to speak directly to millions of potential customers. Some commentators advise that if you want to be listened to, speak to them "in their language". I only partially agree (but then, I'm always breaking the rules!)...

Another crumpled sheet of paper is thrown into the paper basket, your thoughts are rushing around in your head, but none seems to be worthy to open your essay - you are in despair. You ask yourself: "Why should I torture myself with all these useless attempts to force a cohesive sentence. I just cannot write and that's it." You decide to quit this hopeless pastime and do something much more pleasant. It is easy, I agree. But this way you will never know whether you can write or not. We learn a thing just by doing it - it is obvious.

Our student is a little nervous about the course he’s about to start. English is all very well, and he can see why the boss has insisted he go to these lessons, but it’s so complicated. He’s heard it on the TV and even at the cinema, and there are words that are familiar to him: coca-cola, Microsoft, Tony Blair, Love, Yes, No and some swearing! But he’s heard that there’s a lot of irregularity in the language – it’s not as structured and formal as his own, and, frankly, that’s the main source of his anxiety.

Putting aside that individual's perception of the trainer, the comment begged the question, "What makes a great trainer?"

What's happening with your college term papers and essays? Unfortunately, that's a question that a lot of student's cannot or do not want to answer. I see students on almost a daily basis who have the term paper blues. Their biggest problem? They just can't seem to get started. They procrastinate and rationalize. They put off doing their assignments until the eleventh hour.

Have you ever touched a hot iron and then pulled your hand away really quickly to avoid getting burned? Did you have to think to yourself "Gee! - this iron is hot - I better not touch it any longer because it'll probably cause a really bad burn on my hand". The answer is obviously NO! You wouldn't have had any time to think about what you should do and pulling your hand away is automatic. It's what we call a "reflex" action. It doesn't involve much, if any, thinking because by the time you think about it, it's too late.
