Some of the best strategies for you as an adult in learning English is to watch movies and television, to pay attention to the culture, and utilize internet access.

It doesn't take long to realize that English has become almost a universal language. Nearly all the business transactions and international relations are run in the English language. This can be a reason enough for you to decide to learn English, or at least to have some basic understanding, if not speaking it fluently.

The English language is taught actually in almost every school across regions such as Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Latin America. But as an adult who may not have had the chance to study English in school, you might wonder if it is too late to learn English now? Of course, you're no longer at the student age when you can more easily pick up a second language. It is a proven fact, that the best period to learn a foreign language is when you are in your childhood years.

Should this mean that for an adult this task will become actually impossible to achieve? Of course not! It can be a little bit uncomfortable for an adult to start learning English, and they might need to work harder, but it definitely is not something impossible!

There are some factors on the level of difficulty or ease that each person might encounter when learning English. These factors are related to disposition, age, native language, attitude, frequency of practicing and more.

Frankly speaking, the more time and dedication you allocate, the faster and more thoroughly you will get to learn English as an adult. This applies not only to English, but to any second language that someone may try to pick up.

Many people come to the USA either as immigrants or visitors who intend to learn to speak, write and read in the English language. Below there are some factors which influence the learning process and timeframe.

* What is their native tongue? Your native language, and its relationship/similarities to English, influences how easily you can pick up the language. A native speaker of Chinese, for example, which has few similarities to English, would have a more difficult time learning English, when compared to a Spanish speaker.

* How well do they speak English already? Obviously, a complete beginner will require more time than someone who is at least familiar with the English language.

* How much time do they have to dedicate to learning English? A person can't become fluent if they only practice once a month. Intensive classes, though challenging, are often the best solution.

* How often do you encounter English speakers? Someone that take a class, but then goes home and speaks another language all the time, will learn a lot slower than someone who is exposed to, and practices English on a more regular basis.

For many, learning English as an adult is a challenging task, but certainly one that is worthwhile!

For Spanish language speakers that are in the process of learning English, be aware that there are free online tools that help translate from one language to another, such as translatespanishtoenglish.net -- these tools that can assist you while you learn. For when you're offline, an English Spanish dictionary is an extremely handy resource.
