Every parent across the United Kingdom strive to help provide their children with the very best in education. Being able to send your children to schools that can help build skills and attributes that can be carried on through to higher education and later in life is every parents wish. But with many hurdles such as the financial demands and limited number of private schools and time, can make it difficult to guarantee a first class education.

Whereas, many children will have no option but go to a public school. For many this may not be the parents wish because of the hurdles previously mentioned. But the divide is no longer as wide as before and it may be that a public or private will be the best fit for your child. All the options must be considered, with thorough research and networking before making any decision.

So what are the biggest differences in public and private schools and what are the benefits and drawbacks?

Public Schools

This is the choice for the majority of children in the UK, of which not all necessary have a bad reputation that many perceive them to have, with the gap between public and private now shortening. Many benefits of choosing a public school are:

Location - Having a school that is local and only a short walk or bus ride can play the biggest role in where children go. This can help save time for parents that have busy lifestyles and little time each morning to driving far.

Cost - Unlike private public schooling is completely free besides the odd school trip here and there. But on the most another major advantage and deciding factor for many parents.

Population - A Wide Spectrum of children, from different socio-economic backgrounds, will be placed together and can be beneficial for learning about many different cultures at an early age.

Subjects - Almost all public schools will have a standard learning curriculum that will allow more time to be spent learning core subjects. Such as maths and English.

It must be noted that public schools will have larger classrooms therefore lowering the one-to-one time each child will have with teachers.

Private Schools

With enough research, you may discover that a local private school may appear more affordable than you could have imagined. Although this may be for a few but every circumstance will be different.

Here are a few benefits of choosing a private school:

Commitment - Private schools encourage parent involvement and for many parents this is the perfect opportunity to help spend more time to have a say in their child's education.

Classroom Size - Private schools will have a much lower classroom size compared to a public school. This will allow more one-to-one tuition and support.

Education - The education and curriculum will be much higher. With extra curricular activities more available and encouraged.

Future Opportunities - With such a high level of eduction being given, this can help create a well rounded set of skills that will help with further education.

The private school education can be very competitive and challenging therefore it must be a good match for your child. Also, note that private schooling will not have a diverse range of children and therefore reducing the experiences and diversity encountered as a child.

Remember that whenever choosing a school, regardless of private or public, never discount any possibilities and remember to research and find out the quality of each. Private Schools in Scotland, England and the rest of UK will all offer different results and may be matched by public schools in many instances.

Also, don't forget that it's about finding the best match for each and every child. Deciding the environment that will be able to create an atmosphere where learning will be best, this will not be the same for every child.
