Summary
Most of the emails I receive about my language manual ask what level of knowledge will be obtained following the plan outlined. This is like saying to a world class golfer what level can be reached if you follow his/ her instructions. Think about your native language. What level of knowledge are you at?
ArticleMost of the emails I receive about my language manual ask what level of knowledge will be obtained following the plan outlined. This is like saying to a world class golfer what level can be reached if you follow his/ her instructions. Think about your native language. What level of knowledge are you at? I want you to drop this type of thinking if you wish to excel in your chosen language. This is 'college' conventional thinking. There are students I have met who have obtained degrees in their chosen language. Yet they cannot speak the language. They have forgotten most of what they were taught. Sure enough they have their language qualification to show they did study the language. But isn't the main goal of learning any language based on the ability to speak it? What's the point of spending all that time and energy studying a language if you end up not being able to use it in real situations. Surely you have to begin to question the way language is taught in the first place. Learning a language in not about reaching 'levels of knowledge.' AG Hawke in his Quick & Dirty Guide To Learning Languages Fast says it best. 'When you learn another language you earn another soul' The desire to excel comes from the heart. It's not about reaching levels. It's the desire to acquire your new language so it becomes as natural as your own. The ability to think and speak the language is the key that will open doors. When you focus on'levels of knowledge' you subconsciously set limits on yourself. The desire to excel has not limits. Remember that! Persist, dedicate and strive to be the best you can be. Above all, follow a daily practical system. Reach for the skies and you will transcend beyond 'levels.' You will earn another soul.
