There are many other places to purchase supplies also. At most stores, art supplies are not extremely expensive, depending on what exactly bought, of course. If buying professional paint supplies for advanced art it could be a little pricier than if buying art supplies for a simple school project. It also depends on if the art supply is a certain brand name, some being more expensive than others.

There are different types of supplies, and it can be difficult to know which one suits the project the best. If painting something on a canvas you will need acrylic paints which can cost a little bit more. If the project is just painting something on a regular piece of paper or a poster board, there is no need for expensive acrylic paints. There are also different size poster boards, its best to have the size needed so that there is no unnecessary cutting done to the board when it turns out to be the wrong size.

Being prepared for projects makes everything so much easier and less stressful. Running to the store at the last second is such a pain.
